The government has banned as many as 25 organizations while placing one on watch list under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, Federal Minster for Interior Rehman Malik told the National Assembly on Wednesday.
In written reply to a question, the Minister said that three organizations/entities including Jamaat-ul-Daawa, Al-Akhtar Trust and Al-Rashid Trust have been enlisted under the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSC) No 1267 while Sunni Tehrik was placed on watch list.
Malik said that the law-enforcement agencies were watching/monitoring their activity closely in their respective territorial jurisdiction and stern action was taken against those, which indulge in objectionable activities.
He said that Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Sipah-e-Muhammad Pakistan (SMP) were banned in 2001 while Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-Taiba, Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Jaafria Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi and Tehreek-e-Islami were banned in 2002.
Similarly, al-Qaeda, Millat-e-Islarnia Pakistan, Khuddam-ul-Islarn, Islami Tehreek Pakistan, Jamiat-ul-Ansar, Jamiat-ul-Furqan and Jamiat-ul-Tehrir were banned in 2003. The Minster said that Lshkar-e-Islam, Ansar-ul-Islam, Haji Namdar Group and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were banned in 2008 while Jamat-ul-Daawa, Al-Akhtar Trust and Al-Eashid Trust were enlisted under UNSCR 1267 on December 10, 2008.
In another written reply to a question by Marvi Memon of PML-Q, the Minster said that various meetings were held with the provincial governments and law-enforcement agencies to evolve a strategy to control the sectarian and ethnic incidents in the month of Moharram-ul-Haram.
He said that activities of Afghan Boys (ATBs), returnees from Afghan Prisoners released from jails of Guantanamo Bay and sectarian prisoners released from jails and publication/distribution of hate material were being closely monitored.
Board of Directors granted a total of Rs 71,500,000 amount of bonus to President of National Bank of Pakistan S Ali Raza during last three years, Finance Ministry revealed in the National Assembly. In written reply to a question, the Finance Ministry said that a total of Rs 22,500,000 in 2007, Rs 24,500,000 in 2008 and 71,500,000 of bonus were granted to the President of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
He said that the NBP President was getting Rs 2,300,000 monthly pay with perks. The basic pay is Rs 240,000, house rant is Rs 500,000 senior post allowance is Rs 610,000, vacation allowance is Rs 850,000, domestic servant (5) is Rs 50,000 and Chowkidars (2) is Rs 30,000, the Ministry said.
