August 2, 2010 |11:15 | Show Biz  By : Team X

Miss Universe Controversy Begins Those who follow beauty pageants have witnessed a remarkable number of controversies in recent years, some of them political. In general, the increase in the level of controversy probably reflects the growing interest in pageantry around the world.

This year's Miss Universe contest will take place on August 23. Whereas in recent years the big international pageants have been staged in exotic locations.

This year's Miss Universe will be at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Which means, I guess, that it is not too late to get tickets if you are so inclined. The first controversy of the season has already erupted; it is in the entertaining rather than political category.

Australians are up in arms because the "national costume" their contestant, Jesinta Campbell, will be required to wear is a "travesty:" An outlandish outfit designed to represent Australia at the Miss Universe beauty contest has been branded "a national joke" and "a travesty".

The costume, which will be worn by Jesinta Campbell at the competition in Las Vegas next month, features high-heeled Ugg boots, a brown one piece swimming costume hand-painted by.

Darragh Ó Sé argues that to have thrown the refixture decision over to the Meath County Board was a complete and utter cop-out ONE TOPIC dominated conversation whether in shops, pubs or on the street. Everyone had an opinion, many a solution to avoiding the repetition of the ugly scenes that marred the final seconds and the immediate aftermath of the Leinster football final at Croke Park last Sunday.

A common thread from personal experience was a suggestion that the GAA needed to demonstrate leadership on the issues arising and not hope to be rescued by a generous gesture from the Meath County Board. More of the week’s hottest topic later but first a brief look at the demise of one county and the resurgence in another’s fortunes last weekend.

Top marks to Wexford for pulling out a huge win in Galway but the focus for most people was in dwelling on just how poor the Galway team has fared in the last couple of years. As a player, up until last year I couldn’t help thinking “there but for the grace of God” when I consider the number of potholes Kerry almost disappeared down during the qualifiers in last season’s championship.

Miley Cyrus mired in Twitpic controversy - Here we go again!

June 19, 2010 |12:27 | Show Biz  By : Team X

Controversies regarding troubled celebrities are like two sides of the same coin, sometimes it’s the desperate attention seeking plea of the star itself or sometimes it’s the plain annoying interference of the paparazzi. In this case, I vehemently support the latter.

Miley Cyrus resurfaced with the latest trouble tidbit; an upskirt picture of her was posted on Twitter by an infamous celebrity blogger. It showed MileyCyrus without underpants while exiting a $ 129,000 red Tesla roadster electric car.

The problematic image had the following tagline attached to it, “If you are easily offended, do NOT click here. Oh, Miley! Warning: truly not for the easily offended!” The infamous blogger is none other than the annoying Perez Hilton, who was quick to retract the image as soon as many of his followers on Twitter were infuriated by his actions and wished he would be prosecuted for spreading child pornography.

He also posted a video on his website, apologizing to his insulted fans and said he intended to draw attention to how the pop singer got out of a car and encourage her to be lady-like. Yeah like we believe any of that!
