A new film on the life of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto is drawing full houses and new controversies. "It includes audio tapes of Benazir Bhutto never heard before, so much so that it appears almost as if she is narrating her own film.

All of the interviews in this film, from the family, President Zardari, the three children, Sanam Bhutto, Condoleezza Rice, General Musharraf, Fatima Bhutto, all of this footage are new and never seen before,” said film producer Mark Sigel. The film directed by Duane Baughman includes a number of new interviews and comments from Benazir herself.
And references to India appear to be fleeting, but the film suggests she genuinely wanted peace with India."Later on in the film you see also a few shots of her with Rajiv Gandhi and her ongoing efforts for peace in every regard in her political career,” saidBaughman. It appears that if there is a villain in the film, it is Musharraf, who is blamed for her death. At an earlier screening, the director was loudly challenged by Musharraf's son and accused of portraying the general unfairly.
However, Baughman defends himself saying, "I don't believe that I portrayed the general unfairly, I believe history always portrays dictators in a poor light, and the rest is up to the audience to decide whether or not that's true." A life as engaging as Benazir's is bound to make for engaging documentary and of course unavoidable controversy. Pakistan is never short ofcontroversies. Here's another.
